WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. (WBTW) -- South Carolina is prepared for its first major test of hurricane season, with dozens of highwater rescue vehicles on standby and drainage monitoring already under way, Gov. Henry McMaster and other officials said Saturday.

"We are as ready for this as we've ever been. The time to prepare is now, and not when the wind is blowing and the rain is coming down and things are getting shoved around," he said at a news conference.

With Hurricane Humberto looming in the Atlantic, meteorologists expect it to influence another tropical depression likely to become Hurricane Imelda, which could impact coastal South Carolina later this week.
