A tropical storm watch is in effect for eastern Florida as a storm system, currently known as Tropical Depression Nine, is expected to strengthen into Tropical Storm Imelda by the end of the weekend. According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), the storm was located northwest of the eastern tip of Cuba, moving northwest at approximately 7 mph. It is forecast to cross the central and northwestern Bahamas this weekend before approaching the southeastern U.S. coast early next week.

The NHC has issued a tropical storm watch from the Palm Beach-Martin County line to the Flagler-Volusia County line , indicating that tropical storm conditions are possible within the next 48 hours.
