CLEVELAND — The Guardians and the city of Cleveland have partnered to name a street in honor of star third baseman José Ramírez.

The new street, José Ramírez Way, will connect José Ramírez Field at Clark Field with Clark Avenue, city officials announced. Ramírez will be the first active professional athlete to receive such an honor in Cleveland.

The move celebrates Ramírez’s impact on the team and the community, officials said.

On Saturday, the team and the city held an event celebrating the first active Cleveland athlete to have a street named after him.

The future Hall of Famer has led the Guardians' recent improbable surge into playoff contention and squarely placed himself among the top few candidates for MVP voting come season's end.
