BERLIN, CT (WFSB) - It’s been more than a year since a volunteer Wethersfield firefighter lost his life during the fight against a massive brush fire on Lamentation Mountain.
Robert Sharkevich’s family, friends, and fellow firefighters kept his memory alive during a ceremony on Saturday morning.
They came together at the Berlin Fire Department to recognize his service and sacrifice.
Sharkevich’s name was etched in stone in Berlin.
“It’s overwhelming,” said Karen Letizio, Sharkevich’s sister. “It really is overwhelming to know that even a year later, he’s still being thought about, he’s still being memorialized.”
Letizio reflected on what the difficult year it’s been for her family.
