LUMBERTON — Forecasters anticipate that the tropical system which is expected to approach the Carolinas early next week will potentially turn to the east before it makes landfall, with the forecasted effects of this storm improving on Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.
The storm is currently called Tropical Depression Nine, but is expected to strengthen into a hurricane and will be called Imelda once it becomes a tropical storm. While it is still expected to approach the coast of the Carolinas — and will still result in some rain inland — the forecast is now for the storm to make a sharp turn to the right on or around Tuesday.
