LUMBERTON — Tropical Storm Imelda is expected to make a sharp turn eastward, which will make impacts on the Southeast U.S. coast minimal.

Initial forecasts for the storm last week showed a possibility of the storm making a landfall in the Carolinas and bringing significant rain inland, including in Robeson County. However, Hurricane Humberto, a Category-4 storm a few hundred miles to the east, is strong enough to pull Imelda towards it, greatly influencing Imelda’s path and causing it to remain offshore.

As of Monday morning, the National Weather Service’s forecast for Robeson County is light rain from Imelda to continue through Tuesday morning, totaling 1/2 inch to one inch. A moderate breeze should be expected through Wednesday.
