CANFIELD, Ohio (WKBN) -- A Back the Blue event honored a fallen Lorain police officer on Saturday in Canfield.

On July 24, Lorain Police Officer Phillip Wagner was shot and killed in an ambush while eating lunch with another officer. Wagner, 35, was also a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.

For the past six years, Christina Oliver has hosted a Back the Blue event in Canfield and dedicated the event to Wagner and his family after hearing about his passing.

"Unfortunately, this was very close to home. And they have three children, ages five, four and six months. So we wanted to do something for this family because you can't bring back your loved ones," Oliver said.

During the event, Back the Blue hit its goal and raised $5,000 for the Wagner family.
