A man died Saturday after he was hit by a pick-up truck while trying to cross an Interstate 10 on-ramp on foot in north Indio, according to California Highway Patrol.

CHP Officer David Torres said the crash happened just after noon on Sept. 27 on the westbound I-10 onramp west of Monroe Street. The man was walking southbound across the onramp when he was hit by a GMC Sierra turning onto the onramp from Monroe Street. The pedestrian, who has yet to be identified, died at the scene after being hit by the left front portion of the pickup.

Torres said officers are still determining why the truck hit the pedestrian and did not say if the driver will be arrested.
