It’s stunning when you think about it. Tom Brady, perhaps the best quarterback ever, wasn’t too good to sit on the bench as a backup and learn how to play in the NFL. Neither were Patrick Mahomes, Joe Montana, Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees or Brett Favre, and it didn’t derail any of them from Hall of Fame caliber careers.
Yet somehow we’re certain it’s malpractice not to throw young quarterbacks like Jaxson Dart , Caleb Williams and Drake Maye into the fire immediately to “see what they’ve got.”
Because that makes sense, right?
Not a bit, but it’s the way of the NFL today. Cater to the knee-jerk reactions and the fickleness of a fan base while you distract everyone with a shiny new toy and hope that buys you time to build a winning team.
