The Minnesota Vikings are elevating running back Cam Akers from their practice squad to the active roster for their game in Ireland against the Pittsburgh Steelers .

Starting running back Aaron Jones is injured with a hamstring injury suffered two weeks ago. Meanwhile, new starter Jordan Mason has impressed, but as the team searched for quality depth options, they turned to Akers, who was last released by the New Orleans Saints in August.

Akers has been with the Vikings on three different occasions, with the first coming in 2023 after he was traded from the Los Angeles Rams. He was traded by the Vikings to the Houston Texans in 2024.

This will be the first game of Akers’ season after he was signed to the team’s practice squad 11 days ago. Akers, 26, has 2044 career rushing yards
