A couple discovered dead at the foot of a cliff chose to take their own lives following one partner's bone cancer diagnosis.
David, 80, and Susan Jeffcock, 74, climbed 199 steps to reach the historic Whitby Abbey before squeezing through a fence at the rear. The devoted pair positioned themselves at the summit of East Cliff, clasped hands, and jumped 180ft to their deaths.
The 80 year old had been battling his cancer's impact and had penned a letter to a solicitor outlining their motivation. The note read: "Susan wants to come with me."
The duo, wed for 52 years, were discovered deceased on July 30.
