COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina health officials are allowing early refills of certain controlled substance prescriptions ahead of potential Tropical Storm Imelda, which could disrupt pharmacy services across the state.

The South Carolina Department of Public Health authorized pharmacies to provide one-time early refills of Schedule III-V prescriptions with valid refills due through Oct. 4, according to a release from the department.

Schedule III-V controlled substances include medications such as certain pain relievers, anti-anxiety drugs and sleep aids that have a lower potential for abuse.
