Fairbanks Lutheran Church will host a special series of evening prayer services, Vespers for Peace, during the first four Wednesdays of October. Each service will begin at 7 p.m. at Fairbanks Lutheran Church, 1012 Cowles Street.

Rooted in the ancient Christian tradition of vespers, these candlelit services offer a time of music, scripture, and prayer centered on the theme of peace — peace in our community, peace in the world, and peace in our hearts.

The series takes its inspiration from the Friedensgebete — “prayers for peace” — held in Leipzig, Germany, during the final years of the Cold War. Those services gave voice to hope, prayer, and nonviolent resistance in the shadow of the Berlin Wall.
