CHICAGO — A 38-year-old man was beaten while trying to stop an alleged robbery attempt outside a Target store in the Loop on Saturday night.

Chicago police say the man was in the 0-100 block of South State Street around 8:15 p.m. when he attempted to thwart a 22-year-old man from stealing. The victim sustained swelling to the face and a cut on the back of his neck during the incident, according to police.

He was taken to an area hospital in good condition, police say.

The offender, meanwhile, was not injured and was taken into custody by responding officers, according to police.
