KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Liberty High School homecoming dance was cut short Saturday night after a fight broke out between a group of students, leading police and emergency responders to be called to the school.
According to a spokesperson for the Liberty School District, Principal Mike Sharp released a statement to the families of Liberty High School following the incident.
In the statement, he confirmed a fight broke out between a small group of students near the end of the dance, which "unfortunately led to panic and confusion," and rumors of sounds of gunfire.
Despite these claims, Principal Sharp said no weapons were found on campus, and no shots were ever fired. Liberty police confirmed this statement, stating the popping sounds were likely from balloons popping during the chaos of
