Viktor Hovland has withdrawn from Sunday's Ryder Cup singles due through injury.

The Norwegian pulled out of the Saturday afternoon fourballs due to a neck issue believed to have been sustained celebrating a putt on the 17th hole.

Tyrrell Hatton took his place as Team Europe look to put themselves on course to make history and retain their title by reaching 14 points.

Hatton partnered Matt Fitzpatrick rather than having a rest.

It had been hoped Hovland would return to action at Bethpage Black on the final day of action but he is unable to play.

As a result, Rule 3.d of the Ryder Cup Captains' Agreement, also known as the envelope rule, has been implemented.

Harris English will also not play for Team USA, with his match against Hovland treated as a tie.
