A man from out-of-state drowned offshore in Volusia County on Saturday, according to Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood.
In a social media post , Chitwood said that the 51-year-old man drowned after he was pulled out into the ocean and was unable to make it back to shore.
Volusia County Beach Safety is warning of rip currents along the county's beaches. The rip currents are being spurred on by turbulence from Tropical Depression 9 and Hurricane Humberto further out to sea.
Chitwood said red flags are being flown at Volusia beaches and that swimming in the ocean is not recommended right now.
Rip currents and rough surf are both expected to continue throughout the week.
