DUBLIN — Offensive linemen protect their quarterbacks on the field, and Troy Fautanu wishes he would’ve had the chance to do the same Friday night for Skylar Thompson.
Not much could’ve put a damper on a weekend that ended with a 24-21 win for the Steelers against the Vikings, but the reported assault and robbery of Thompson in Dublin was an unexpected footnote for an otherwise successful adventure to Ireland. Thompson was in sweats and with the team for the game with no noticeable injuries Sunday, though the incident threw the whole team for a loop.
“We were all separated. It sucks — bad,” said Fautanu, the Steelers’ starting right tackle. “Because if we were all there with him ... ”
