GRAND BLANC, Mich. — Authorities say three people are dead — including the suspected gunman, who was shot and killed by police — and a total of 10 people were shot when a man drove a pickup truck into a Mormon church during Sunday services , opened fire on the congregation and set the building ablaze.

At a 5 p.m. news conference, Grand Blanc Township Police Chief William Renye identified the suspect as Thomas Jacob Sanford, 40.

Hundreds of people were inside The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc Township when the violence began late Sunday morning, according to Renye. He said Sanford rammed a pickup truck through the church’s front doors, got out and started shooting before allegedly setting the building on fire.
