TOLEDO, Ohio — Downtown Toledo was awash in a sea of pink on Sunday morning as thousands of survivors and supporters came together for the 32nd annual Susan G. Komen Northwest Ohio Race for the Cure .
For breast cancer survivors like Rayni Robinson, the event is about more than fundraising — it’s about community.
“I was diagnosed in 2007 and five days later was the race,” said Robinson. “So I’ve been at every one since then.”
Robinson, has been cancer-free for 18 years. At every race since her diagnosis, she has worn the same handmade hat, created for her by a friend when she was first diagnosed.
“The hat is a staple,” she said. “It’s the only day it’s worn, so this hat will be here every year I am.”
