FAYETTEVILLE, Ark — After the University of Arkansas announced the firing of head football coach Sam Pittman , questions have been swirling about how much it will cost the university to cut ties.

Pittman signed a new contract with Arkansas in June 2022 that raised his base salary to $5 million, changed his buyout structure, and could have extended his employment through the 2027 season.

This contract was cut short after just five games into the 2026 season, three of which were back-to-back losses. Pittman finished just under .500 with a 32-34 overall record.

If Pittman's record since 2021 was under .500, the buyout would have been $5.7 million. His record since 2021 was 29-27, meaning it was over .500 and bumped the buyout to $9.3 million.
