A MAN accused of a violent group stabbing of a woman before her house was allegedly torched while she was inside is headed for trial after denying charges against him.

Jamie Alan Clements-Earl appeared via video link in Tamworth Local Court from custody at Clarence Correctional Centre where he remains bail refused.

He's been behind bars for more than a year, and the court heard his two charges had been before the court for 17 months - one of the longest-running cases in Tamworth.

After months of negotiations, solicitor Nicholas Forrest said there would be a mix of pleas for trial and sentence in the district court.
