Goddess Kalaratri, the fiercest form of Goddess Parvati, is being worshipped today on the eighth day of Sharadiya Navratri, which is actually the seventh day. The eighth day is traditionally dedicated to Maa Mahagauri. Due to Chaturthi Tithi spanning two days this time, the festival has been extended to 10 days instead of 9.

Maa Kalaratri is revered as a warrior goddess and is depicted riding a donkey. She is a goddess with four hands. She displays Abhaya and Varada Mudras from two of her hands, and carries a sword and an iron hook in the other two.
