Queen Mary of Denmark has been spotted on a night out, celebrating her long-time friend's 50th birthday while her husband, King Frederik X, was notably absent on a private trip abroad.
The Tasmanian-born Queen, 53, was photographed and filmed at Baroness Caroline Fleming's 'Out of Africa' themed bash on 14 September.
Mary- godmother to Caroline's daughter Josephine- mingled with guests in safari-inspired outfits and was seen chatting with a man in a white suit and black bow tie.
The celebration was not listed on the Palace's official calendar and came as Frederik quietly left the country.
From 13–15 September, the Royal House named Crown Prince Christian, 19, as regent- a role only triggered when the monarch is officially absent, usually while overseas.
