Nasa astronaut Jonny Kim has shared breathtaking images of Hurricane Humberto from the International Space Station (ISS), capturing the powerful storm illuminated by bursts of lightning at night.

During a night pass over the Atlantic Ocean, Kim photographed the rare spectacle of lightning activity inside the eye of the hurricane, treating observers to a dramatic sight that underscored both the beauty and intensity of nature’s forces.

The images, posted from orbit, show Humberto’s swirling cloud bands with pulses of light radiating from within its core.
