CHEMUNG, N.Y. (WETM) — An 18-year-old man was shot and killed by a State Trooper after allegedly trying to stab a woman inside a home, according to New York State Police on Sunday, Sept. 28.

New York State Police and a Chemung County Sheriff's Deputy responded to a domestic dispute on Rotary Road at 2:58 p.m., according to the police.

Nathan J. Novakowski, 18, of Chemung, was found threatening a woman with scissors in the living room.

A state trooper repeatedly ordered Novakowski several times to drop the weapon in an attempt to defuse the situation. Novakowski ignored the commands, and attempted to stab the victim, troopers said.

The trooper then shot Novakowski, killing him, according to troopers.

Authorities say the woman had minor injuries and was treated at the scene by Greater V
