TOLEDO, Ohio — A Toledo Fire and Rescue station is expected to be taken out of service, according to Toledo's firefighter's union.
Local 92 President Joe Cira told WTOL 11 that the city of Toledo told him in a memo that it intends to take engine 12 and, per his understanding, station 12 out of service. This would take the total number of engines in the city from 18 to 17.
TFRD's station 12 is located in Point Place, at the intersection of Chase Street and Suder Avenue. Assistant Fire Chief John Kaminski told WTOL 11 the decision is a result of changes made in the collective bargaining agreement.
Cira claimed the move was the city's way of retaliating against Local 92 after it was told to match the firefighter union's pay with the Toledo police union's pay prior to contract ratification.
