Ana Popovic certainly wants the world to appreciate her hot guitar skills and soulful blues-rock chops. But she wants to make people dance as well — part of the mission behind her upcoming 10th studio album, “Dance to the Rhythm.”

She performs Sunday, Oct. 5 at the Kent Stage .

“I love to dance,” explains the Serbian-born Popovic, 49, who now lives in Los Angeles and also maintains a house in Detroit. “Back home, when I was growing up, the male side of the family and the friends that were musicians would all play, and the female side of the family and friends just wanted to dance. So we would have all these parties, and the guys were jamming, and I’m jamming with them, and the girls just wanted to get up and dance. They wanted James Brown. That wanted music that moves them.
