New Delhi: Rinku Hooda bagged India’s second gold medal in the World Para Athletics Championship at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi on Monday, September 29. It was also a double podium finish for India, as Sundar Singh Gurjar also won a silver medal in the men’s javelin throw F46.
Rinku threw an opening-round throw of 63.81m, which broke China’s C. Guo’s 10-year-old Championship record of 61.89m. Both Indians were competitive in the event, as Sundar passed Rinku on his third attempt with a 64.11m throw.
But Rinku made a huge throw of 66.37m in the next round and took the lead again. Sundar made a supershot of 64.76m in the final round and failed to cross Rinku’s mark at the end to conclude his campaign with a silver medal.
