Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Police have arrested three individuals, including members from actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) and the BJP, for allegedly spreading defamatory content and rumours related to the Karur stampede tragedy that claimed 41 lives. The arrests signal a stern stance from the state government against attempts to exploit the disaster for political gains or disrupt public order.

Those arrested have been identified as Sagayam from the BJP’s Perumbakam unit, and Sivanesan and Sarathkumar, who are functionaries of TVK from Avadi near Chennai. They were produced before a court and subsequently remanded to jail.
