BMW is recalling nearly 200,000 vehicles due to a serious defect that could cause the cars to catch fire, even when parked.
The recall is for certain 2019 through 2022 models, including the Z4, 330I, X3, X4, 530I, 230l and 430I standard and convertible, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) .
The recall also affects 1,469 Toyota Supra vehicles manufactured by BMW from 2020 through 2022.
In total, 196,355 cars are being recalled because the engine starter relay may corrode, causing the relay to overheat and short circuit, which could cause a fire.
Therefore owners of these cars are told by the NHTSA to park outside and away from buildings and other vehicles until they either confirm their car is not part of the recall or have their car fixed.
