MUNISING, MI -- The changing seasons open up a window for funky fungi to take hold as trees decay and new life blooms on the fallen trunks.

In the Upper Peninsula, park rangers at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore have noticed spindles of gold, puffs of white and caps of red sprouting out of the forest foliage.

On Facebook , rangers reminded visitors that mushrooms are one of the rare souvenirs you can take home from the national lakeshore.

But, National Parks Services reminds you to keep this old adage in mind:

There are bold mushroom hunters and old mushroom hunters, but there are no old, bold mushroom hunters.
