Several administrative offices in Cuba, N.M., have closed to the public after high levels of mold and trace levels of asbestos were detected in a village complex last week.

"The Village of Cuba Administrative Offices will remain closed for the foreseeable future," Cuba Mayor Denny Herrera said in a statement late Friday, "for the protection of Village employees and the public."

Mold was discovered in restrooms, a kitchen in the senior center and in a storage closet. Trace amounts of asbestos also were found in the restrooms, according to a report. Affected offices include the municipal court, a senior center, the water and sewer department and motor vehicle department.

Cuba is a village of around 600 people about 110 miles northwest of Santa Fe in Sandoval County.
