WASHINGTON — Governor Wes Moore announced his plans to close the Maryland Correctional Institution at Jessup, known as MCI-J, located in Anne Arundel County, on Monday. Moore is aiming to have the facility closed by June 30, 2026.

This closure is expected to bring about $21 million per year in savings for state taxpayers, according to Moore. That money will help expand programming in education, vocational training, and re-entry services for incarcerated individuals.

MCI-J has been open since 1981 and is a medium security corrections facility. The facility houses 709 individuals and budgets for 308 staff members.
