WASHINGTON — Maryland's Senators are launching a campaign to preserve the anti-slavery legacy of Harpers Ferry against the so-called “anti-woke” prerogatives of the Trump administration.

Since arriving in the White House, the administration has prioritized eliminating what it deems “woke” or “politically correct” elements from institutions including the Smithsonian and the Pentagon.

In March, Trump ordered the Pentagon to remove “DEI content” – including references to a World War II Medal of Honor recipient and the first women to pass Marine Infantry training. In May, he signed an executive order cutting funding to NPR and PBS over what he described as “woke propaganda.”
