Former NSW Treasurer and Transport Minister Andrew Constance has been named Shoalhaven Council's new CEO.

A former corporate affairs consultant, Mr Constance was State Member for Bega for more than 18 years, including several ministerial roles, taking charge of finance and services, ageing and disability, industrial relations, transport and serving as treasurer.

He quit state parliament in December 2021 in an effort to enter federal politics, contesting the seat of Gilmore for the Liberal Party, but narrowly losing to Labor incumbent Fiona Phillips by 373 votes.

He recontested the seat in May this year, but when he was again unsuccessful Mr Constance said he was going to step away from politics .

However his experience has resulted in Mr Constance being offered the role as council's
