BUXTON, N.C. — Five houses collapsed in Buxton on the Outer Banks as a result of Hurricane Humberto and Hurricane Imelda, bringing strong surf to the southeast coast.

The recent collapses add to the already large tally, marking the 13th through 17th house collapses in the past five years. The most recent house collapse occurred just two weeks ago.

Locals told 13News Now the first house collapse occurred sometime after 1 p.m. on Tuesday.1
