HARTFORD, Conn. (WFSB) - It’s looking more likely our government is headed for a shutdown tonight.

Congressional leaders and President Trump failed to reach a deal after meeting yesterday.

A shutdown could lead to the furlough and firing of large numbers of federal workers. Services will also be suspended.

If a shutdown occurs, there is a plan in place.

When it comes to essential federal employees, they will stay on the job but won’t get paid until the shutdown is over.

This means armed forces and air traffic controllers will keep working. Post offices will also stay open.

But plenty of state agencies that rely on federal funding are at risk.
