STOCKTON, Mo. — A criminal investigation into a reported shooting threat that forced the shutdown of a Charlie Kirk vigil in Stockton last week has reached a dead end, police say.
Dozens gathered at Stockton's city park for a grassroots vigil honoring the conservative political activist on Sunday, Sept. 21, but the event ended within minutes after a thunderstorm and the shooting threat.
Stockton Police Chief Zakk Yokley said the threat was posted on social media from what appeared to be a "burner account" — an anonymous profile.
“We suspect it was a teenager possibly joking around,” Yokley said.
The account was deleted, making it nearly impossible to trace, he noted.
