OCALA, Fla. (WCJB) - Two shootings over the weekend have pushed Veterans Helping Veterans to focus on outreach and PTSD support for local veterans.
“We have 46,000 veterans in Marion County. We need to serve them better,” said Executive Director Todd Belknap.
Berny Medina is from Marion County and was in the army for 13 years. He says it’s impossible to do it all on your own.
“We’ve all got problems, I’ve got problems. But I have better access with my brothers connecting, networking, learning how to work together because we can’t, we don’t know how to do it all on our own,” said Medina.
Belknap says hundreds of veterans come through every month. For example, in June, they saw 171. In July, they saw 307 veterans.
He says each time, he asks them these same questions.
