DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG) - The Justice Department launched an investigation into Des Moines Public Schools for alleged racial discrimination in its employment practices.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) is looking into whether the district’s practices discriminate based on race, color, and national origin in violation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
The district’s hiring goal is for teaching and learning staff to align with the student population regarding “demographics and cultural responsivity,” according to its website.
The release states Des Moines Public Schools implemented quotas to hire a greater number of “teachers of color” in its affirmative action plan.
