Community members and students at the various schools prepared bags for the people who came to the event.

On Tuesday, the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter donated the vehicle to VA Augusta, a move that will expand transportation services for veterans to get to their medical appointments.

“For veterans who do not have the ability to get back and forth to their medical appointments, that’s what this is for,” said veteran Bennie Wilson. “Volunteer drivers carry veterans back and forth through our DAV Disabled Veterans Van Network.”

Officials say vans are donated to areas where the need is greatest.
