LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Jefferson County Public Schools has confirmed a case of whooping cough, or pertussis, at one of its high schools.

A letter went out to parents and staff at Atherton High School on Monday, Sept. 29, alerting them about the reported case.

School officials also provided details about whooping cough, the symptoms, seeking treatment, and preventing the illness.

Dear Parents/Guardians and Staff,

We are writing to inform you that a case of whooping cough (pertussis) has been reported at Atherton High School. Pertussis spreads easily and can cause severe coughing, particularly in babies and individuals with certain health conditions.
