WASHINGTON — With a potential government shutdown just hours away, a D.C. institution announced plans to use funding to stay open for at least six days.
The government's current budget runs out on Sept. 30. If Congress hasn't passed a funding bill by then, the federal government will shut down on Oct. 1.
On Tuesday, the Smithsonian announced plans to remain open through at least Oct. 6 in the event of a government shutdown. The institution will use previous funding to stay open.
"In the event of a federal government shutdown, the Smithsonian will use prior-year funds to remain open to the public at least through Monday, October 6, 2025," the website reads .
