HYDE PARK, Vt. (WCAX) - It’s been a record-breaking year for loons in Vermont.

Three decades ago, Vermont only documented seven nesting pairs of loons. Now, after years of conservation efforts and laws to protect them, biologists this year documented a total of 115 nesting pairs. And more lakes are getting loon families.

Reporter Ike Bendavid spoke with Eric Hanson, the leader of the Vermont Center for Ecostudies’ Loon Conservation Project.
