OWENSBORO, Ky. (WEVV) — First responders in Owensboro participated in a large-scale emergency exercise at the airport, focusing on enhancing their crisis response capabilities.

The drill simulated a mass-casualty scenario, complete with sirens, victims, and emergency responders.

“I am stimulating a 63 percent burn victim,” Hannah Blanton, a volunteer, said.

Blanton was among the many volunteers aiding first responders in honing their skills.

“Today we’re addressing just an explosion that’s affected—some are not injured because they haven’t got to the plane. Some are critically injured—the worst-case scenario, so we’re basically testing these types of injuries,” Jeremy Smith, Public Safety Director for Daviess County, said.
