MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WKRN) — As Tennessee continues to grow, so does its mounting trash problem.

Middle Point Landfill in Rutherford County has been called Middle Tennessee's dumping ground. It's where trash has piled up, not only from their own residents, but also from Davidson County and the surrounding areas. However, it — like many in Middle Tennessee landfills — is running out of room.

“Each person in the state, as I said, produces maybe five to six pounds of waste a day; our population's expected to increase by almost a million by 2040," said Jeremy Hooper, Environmental Consultant for TDEC's Division of Solid Waste Management. "So that adds, if you do the math, at least another billion pounds of trash that has to be managed."
