McMenamins plans to convert a residential property near its downtown Portland venues into a hotel.

A permit issued by the city shows McMenamins wants to change the occupancy of the Taft House, at 1321 S.W. Washington St. in the West End, from residential to hotel use. Alterations include renovations on the second, third and fourth for accessibility and to create new rooms.

McMenamins could not be reached for comment.

The Portland-based Pacific Northwest hospitality chain purchased the building for $1.5 million last August . The 37,000-square-foot building previously served as low-income congregate housing for disabled seniors.
