SALEM, Ore. — The Oregon State Capitol Rotunda is open to the public once again after years of construction, marking a milestone in a $505.7 million seismic and accessibility upgrade that has stretched across nearly two decades of planning and phased work.

The Capitol Accessibility, Maintenance and Safety project, known as CAMS, began with discussions in 2005 and was split into three phases. The work aims to preserve the historic 1938 building while preparing it to withstand a major earthquake, modernizing outdated systems, and improving public access.

“Basically fix all of the maintenance items around here that have kind of failed or are about to fail over time.” said Jodie Jones, CAMS project director.
