After about nine years in development, Salt & Straw's chocolate taco treat will launch nationwide this week.

A collaboration between the Portland ice cream brand and Taco Bell , the Tacolate will be available at Salt & Straw locations starting Friday.

Its journey to production starts with an experiment for Salt & Straw's former soft-serve shop Wiz Bang Bar and includes an international mission by its co-founder and head ice cream innovator Tyler Malek .
